After a hearty dinner last night, the group would have shuffled off into the darkness to begin their hike up a steep path of scree and seasonal snow for about 7kms which will take approximately 8-10hrs. The team are already ensconsed at the Aishi hotel. Because Nicola and Nadine were feeling so strong, they descended in one day. All now feeling great and relishing the oxygen rich air, and today will be spent resting by the pool, reflecting on the climb and later – a trip into town for dinner and summit celebrations! Sean sms’d me at 11pm last night saying ‘well on our way’. No news yet but if the weather has been good to them and Nicola and Nadine are strong, the summit should be in site. Holding thumbs!
Heard from Sean – they are on their way to Barafu campsite at 4600m – and firing as strong as Khumjung yaks! They should arrive in an hour or so. We’ve just got back from Hwandile in the Transkei where we spent a lovely couple of days at the Haines’ cottage with unbelievable views of the Wild Coast – thanks to Fee & Ant, and Glynne & Hazel. Fishing was great, having caught a 3kg Rock Salmon, 2 Sand Sharks and a Silver Bream.
