Mt Aconcagua – Summit – 6962m

Ole ole ole ole…..the Aconcagua amigos tagged the summit yesterday. 14 hours round trip. Not bad for a bunch of ballies!

Mt Aconcagua – Camp Nido (5500m)

Yesterday the team pushed up to Camp Nido (5500m) and are now back in Base Camp.  Sean phoned this evening to say everyone is well and strong. They had a rest day in preparation for the push up again tomorrow.

Mt Aconcagua – rest day

Heard from Sean this afternoon.  The comms have been bad because Sean’s satellite phone was stolen out of his bag on the flight from JHB to Mendoza.  Everyone is well and in good spirits. Mt Aconcagua – Base Camp

Today the team trekked for about 8 hrs to Plaza de Mulas (Base Camp 4200m). During the season, the foot of the mountain is transformed into a little village with hundreds of colourful tents and because it’s easily accessible for transport mules, there are heaps of unexpected luxuries brought in. There’s even an art shop.

Mt Aconcagua expedition Jan 2016 – Confluencia

The Aconcagua amigos (Sean, Mike Estment, Mario Blazevic and Tony Badenhorst) are now at Confluencia which is 3400m.  They will spend two night there acclimatising with a trek today to Ac’s South Face to the French Camp at 4000m.  It’s a 15km round trip.  The South Face is very dry with constant avalanches and ice […]
