South Pole – Day 4

Email received from Sean yesterday:

‘It’s all going exceptionally well here in the Southern tip of Chile.

Yesterday was the hardest blow of wind I’ve experienced since I was last here. It freakin howled but it seems lady luck may be on our side as far as the timing of flying into the continent is concerned.  The weather has been terrible and other teams waiting to get into Antarctica have been here for 10 days. The runway at Union Glacier was snowed in but has now been cleared so two flights have gone in in the last two days.

The weather seems to have improved in Antarctica – let’s hope it stays that way. We’re hoping to be briefed tomorrow (Friday) and if all is okay we will be flying in on Saturday. Hold thumbs. That would be a record as last time I was here, we were only able to fly in after 17 days.

We’ve been getting our gear prepared and are hellish excited about the prospects and challenges of Antarctica and living in tents for the next few weeks at 15 degrees below zero.  It seems radically extreme in comparison to the fantastic 5 star Mundo Dreams hotel where we are based now. Everyone is well’.
