South Pole – middle of nowhere

Yesterday, the team started their first day of sled hauling.  Message from Sean last night was that they had done 14km in 7 hours and it was 26 degrees below.  They’ll take time to adjust to the altitude and the sleds and so it will be slow going at first.  The altitude is 3000 meters but it’ll feel like 3700m because of the density of the air.

From The Unlimited Child blog….’We have left Union Glacier and there is great excitement. We had a very slow three-and-a-half hour flight to the middle of nowhere. We landed on the snow and ice and as far as the eye can see – in a big circle as I am turning around now – it’s flat and empty.
