K2 – Summit eludes the team – expedition over
NB. update 13 May 2010…for any K2 or Karakoram climbers in the 2010 season I have three new cylinders of Poisk oxygen in Skardu that are for sale email Sean on venture@hot.co.za
Just heard news that the only three remaining members of the expedition to K2, attempting to reach the summit this morning, turned back at 8000 meters. It seems the weather conditions were just not right this season. Too much snow and too much wind.
My opinion is that climate change got the better of things. It’s too hot and too loose.
I feel disappointed that were no successful summits in the team but also pleased that I made the right call early on.
Congratulations to Ron and Fabrice, who I became good friends with on the trip, for getting so high. I wish them a safe passage down and look forward to corresponding with them as soon when they get back to hear the stories. Also to Wim and to Jake who turned back earlier, and wish them a safe trip back to Base Camp and off the mountain .

You obviously made the right decision. I see on another K2 blog the guys turned back from exhaustion because of waist high snow and winds and they had not got to camp 4. Today’s report is that no one from any of the teams is going to summit and all are either in base camp or decending.
