Kilimanjaro – Day 5
Heard from Sean – they are on their way to Barafu campsite at 4600m – and firing as strong as Khumjung yaks! They should arrive in an hour or so. Then it will be serious preparation time as they sleep, eat and hydrate – getting ready for tonight’s departure for the summit. If all goes well, the team will arrive at the highest point in Africa – Uhuru peak (5895m) at about 8.30 am tomorrow morning (7.30am -SA time). Will keep you updated.
Just in – Nicky’s Kili update: We are at the Barafu high camp at 4600m. Tedious climb up from Karanga at 3950m, through shale and we are now in the highland desert at the base of the summit pyramid. Very ‘Lord of the Rings’!! Having tea, cup cakes and pop corn as we chat about preparing for summit tonight! Hold thumbs as we leave at 11.30 this evening for our summit attempt!
