Sean Wisedale – Mt Everest Expedition 2015 – BC avalanche – Too many unanswerable questions

Written By: sean on April 27, 2015 18 Comments

Noisy, powerful helicopters flying over my tent was what I woke up to this morning.  I popped a few punches into the fly sheet knocking the ice and snow off.  Had the earth been shaking during my sleep?  Outside it was frosty and clear.  They were busy evacuating climbers from above the impassable ice fall.

I walked to the improvised helipad after a cup of overly sweet Sherpa tea. Three frozen corpses bound in sleeping bags and tarps await an airlift.  There is no urgency as the mortuary in muggy Kathmandu is at capacity.

Tibetan prayer flags fly from the chortens – ironically.  Two rescued climbers are greeted ducking under the blades of the chopper.  They are in tears elated to be alive.

So much mayhem so instantly in such a spiritual place.  Too many  unanswerable questions in my mind right now.

Hi Sean and your team (especially my good friend Rob Bentley). There is no way O can imagine what you guys are experiencing right now, but I do know that your comfort will come from the God of the Bible. In the midst of all the confusion he will be your guide. He wrote this in Psalm 21 to encourage you all at this time.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
