EBC – Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3445m)

From Sean: Namche today….it’s very dry and the lowest I have ever seen the rivers on this trek…what is happening to global weather??? The hills are bare of snow and the locals in the valley claim they’ve had very little precipitation. The dryness is a problem as it dehydrates you more quickly which is not good for acclimitisation.

We have a great crew and everyone is loving it. The push up the hill to Namche today had us all huffing and puffing and the dusty route is a mission. Actually, we wish for a good storm or at least a downpour to settle the dust. On the route  today we came across a few yaks in bad moods who became quite unruly as we tried to pass. One yak ‘jackknifed’ on the route and it took a while before we could continue.

Yak attack

We’re all in good shape and ready to push over the hill to Khumjung tomorrow to go and have a look at the yeti skull and visit the Khunde hospital…

I can taste the dust and feel the calf muscles complaining on those last few steps up to Namche. Can’t blame the yaks for feeling a bit mean. I also can’t believe it’s been a year …. Have a great trek, all!
