EBC – Namche to Khumjung (3791m)

From Sean: Now that the Maoists are in charge we have phone lines up the valley!.YAY!..They used to blow them up! So I’m writing to you over an antiquated dial up with enough time to say that we are in Khumjung, the most magical village in the Khumbu, home to the mystical Yeti skull!

And there’s also enough time to tell you a bit about the crew: There’re the old faithfuls ‘Royco’ and Kelly who came along up Kili a few years ago. Roy’s the oldest  but he’s the fittest and eats the slowest. Kelly brought her sister Nicci from England along. They both have emerald engagement rings found in the loft of their fathers house in Zimbabwe.
There’s Snackpot Leonard and his ‘goose’ Dani. Goose lifted a porter’s load of sixty kilo’s going to Namche yesterday and ‘kacked’ on a yak that was in a bad mood, which made the yak back off properly!  Michelle is a yak magnet. She has been charged twice. She loves cats and all she wanted was Marthinus to get a pic of a baby yak when the mother got mad.  Marthinus went into the lodge and Michelle climbed up Khumjung peak with Kelly and me.

Yeti skull

That was where we saw a yeti which no-one will believe us about. Roy also saw it but he says he only heard it. Debs is recording our trip on paper and she is our own Nancy Drew. Steve is her man and he is going to turn 50 when we get to Base Camp. He brought a bottle of whisky that has the same name as the stream in Scotland which he cast his mom’s ashes into, so he may have a bit of her along…
