EBC – Dingboche to Loboje (4931m)

Written By: sean on May 2, 2010 4 Comments

The latest news is that the team acclimatised to 5000m yesterday on the walk up the ‘hill’ behind Dingboche. They had seriously good views of Ama Dablam – weather was great. Besides a few coughts and sneezes it seems that everyone is on track. They are so excited to know that on Tuesday they will reach Base Camp.  It’s been the usual tucker all the way, day in and day out – either fried eggs and chips or dhal bhat (Nepalese traditional meal of lentils and rice) so there was great excitment in camp when Sean came across a restaurant that served a proper Indian veg curry. Yay – something a little different.

The group will leave Dingboche and climb up the ridge behind Periche today, until they reach the teahouse. If it’s clear enough, they will be mesmerised by the views of Tawoche and Cholatse.  A steep, stiff ascent to the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier will then be tackled.  The top of the climb is marked by a series of stone monuments (cairns) to commermorate some of the climbers that have not returned from expeditions to this region.  The Lhotse rigde is awesome from this angle.
