From Sean ‘We got to the crater at about 3.30pm with lots of soft, deep snow with crusty surface. Cloud and wind with at least 2 hours to the summit. We reached 6750m but in those conditions, we decided to turn back…’
After a 3am start, the team will attempt a 9 hour push to the summit. The climb starts with switch backs then changes to a long traverse at 6500m. After reaching the main crater, they will then work their way to the summit. Holding thumbs for good weather and no wind.
As the team struggles with altitude in a harsh environment, they’ve also had to combat heavy winds and unseasonal snow – at times waist deep.
They made it to 5800m today. There is a weather window in two to three days time for their summit attempt.
