Mt Elbrus – Day 1 – Departure day

Katherine’s been checking the flight status of our Egypt Air flight to Moscow, to see whether there are any delays because of the fires raging around the city.  One website states that Domodedovo airport sent 33 jets to the reserve airfields, 36 departing and 44 arriving flights are delayed.  Eysh.  I’m more concerned about the fact that we have to spend 5 hours in Cairo en route and there’s no Heineken allowed on the flight  Arrrrrggghhh.

I’ve been shopping for food and packing my gear (including the very important vuvi which we intend to blow on the summit).  I started to feel a rumble of excitiment as I tossed my crampons into my gear bag.   What’s also cool is I’ll be meeting up with my mate Fabrice ‘Fritz’ Imparato who I climbed with on K2, this time last year.  And he is bringing his wife Catherine along.

Blowing the vuvie

Good luck with the climb and please tell Fabrice and Catherine that I say “bonjour”!
I’ll be following up your adventures on the blog.
    Enjoy!
