Kili climbers at the airport

Sean landed in Joburg last night and spent the evening reuniting with the Elbrus group. He had a brilliant time catching up and reminiscing with everyone.  It was not too raucous an evening as Sean had to meet 13 people on the Kili trip at 6am at OR Tambo this am.  Their 1time flight departed at 07:45 and landed in Zanzibar at 12.15.  After a short lunch in Stonetown, the group departs on the local airline from Zanzibar to Kilimanjaro.   Overnight at the best hotel in Moshi – the Aishi Protea and after breakfast tomorrow, they will drive to Umbwe gate where the ascent begins.

The group will be climbing the classic Umbwe route, which is punted to be the toughest route. In fact it’s the most unpopulated and spectacular route, and why Sean prefers it.
