Rwenzoris – Day 3 Nyakalengija (1615m) to Nyabitaba Hut (2651m)
Message just in from Sean: “Equatorial foothills of the Rwenzoris are lush, with misty pinnacles in the distance. Everyone is chuffed. Andrew splashed out on chinese floral brolly.”
Last night the guys were amped to see the lunar eclipse but no such luck as the clouds had moved in. This morning they will drive for 25kms from Kasese to the start of the route – Nyakalengija Gate at the Rwenzori National Park where you will meet the local guides, porters and spend time sorting out loads and allocating gear. The trail begins by passing through farmland to the park boundary which follows the Mubuku River and then a long climb through bracken fern slopes up onto a massive ridge to reach Nyabitaba hut (approx 5 hrs). During this part of the trip they may hear chimpanzee and see black and white colobus, blue monkeys and the brilliantly coloured Rwenzori turaco. Dinner and overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.
