Rwenzoris – John Matte hut
From Sean (received last night) “Today was a proper eight hour thrash. We thrashed along a route of mangled twisted roots, we thrashed through knee deep mud, we thrashed over slippery boulders and we thrashed through the blazing sun and the pouring rain. By the time we reached John Matt hut at 3500m, we were exhausted. Today was a warm up and curtain raiser for the Lower and Upper Bigo Bogs we encounter tomorrow. Today we got our first glimpse of Margherita Peak and the glaciers on the Stanley plateau – ice in the tropics – we can’t wait to climb on it. Lunch was an improvement on yesterdays. We got two slices of bread with a single tomato strategically placed off centre. Ok, we got a banana and an apple too. Lance brought out his blue floral Chinese brolly today – so he and Andrew with his red floral brolly are now big chinas”.
