Kili – Day 2 – to Umbwe Caves (3000m)

Written By: sean on September 11, 2011 5 Comments

Message from Sean last night that they had all arrived at the hotel in Kilimanjaro after a long day of travelling from Joburg to Kilimanjaro.

Today, after breakfast and a short briefing about what the day entails – about what gear to wear, altitude etc, they’ll drive to Umbwe gate at 1800m.  The trail starts through the primary rain forest to Umbwe caves campsite. Lunch will be set up in the forest by the local guides and porters and will consist of fried chips, chicken, muffins, eggs, soup and fruit.  Today’s trek will take 5 to 6 hours.

Many thanks to the Stantons for the use of their pics.

    Hi Brent,

Cambridge calling, wishing you and your team all the best, and hope you are enjoying what must be amazing surroundings. Hope you are taking lots of pics.

Will be keenly monitoring your progress, hope it doesn’t rain too much, and that the food is at least 2 star.

    Andrew & Nick.
