Mt Aconcagua – Mendoza to Penitentes

Written By: sean on February 6, 2012 One Comment

After his South Pole expedition, Sean spent last week relaxing in Mendoza, Argentina waiting for the Aconcagua team to arrive from South Africa.  After a long day of travelling yesterday from Joburg to Buenos Aires and then to Mendoza, the  eight guys and one female crew were met by Sean and transferred to the lush Executive Park Suites hotel in Mendoza for a last bit of luxury.

After breakfast this morning, the group applied for the park permits, sorted and collected gear to hire and then departed by bus for the 4 hour road trip to Penitentes which is a ski resort and housing base for expeditions to Mt Aconcagua. The place was named after the unique rock formations that appear to represent monks and can be seen on the southern slope of the valley.  Dinner and overnight at Penitentes.
