Machame to Shira

All good so far.  We arrived at Shira for lunch.  Nicola had a bit of a headache but she’s doing ok.

There’s a new helicopter pad here from Russian billionaire and Chelsea Football club owner Roman Abramovich. Abramovich and his party of 6 needed 113 porters to look after their every need but eventually turned back at Barafu after Abromovich started suffering from altitude sickness.

During the day, it’s super warm, dry and dusty which could mean strong winds high up.  Hope not!

The sun is now setting at Shira, the temperature is dipping and it’s going to be a gorgeous, cold night.  We are now at 3800m.  Tomorrow we head towards the extinct volcano Kibo, we cross a broad valley and hopefully climb up Lava Tower to help acclimatise if the weather is good. It’s 7 hours to Barranco at 3900m.  Looking forward to it!
