Mt Elbrus – Day 1

Written By: sean on August 6, 2012 5 Comments

Sean departs with a group of eleven climbers tonight for Moscow.  They are off to climb Mt Elbrus (5642m) – the highest mountain in Europe.

Nicky, Mike, Marthinus, Michelle, Nico and Schalk have all climbed with Sean on other mountains. Christiaan, Pavel, Jurgen, Julian and Sharmein form the rest of the team.

Last year the Mt Elbrus region was closed by the Russian government as a result of a terrorist attack that claimed three tourist’s lives. The area has re-opened now and the slopes attract those keen to climb the ‘Seven Summits’ – the highest mountain on every continent. Sean is the first from Africa to achieve the feat and shares his extrensive high altitude experience in leading groups.

Jules and Jurgen, enjoy and be safe. Jules, this is what “the man on the bike” must’ve felt like (okay, maybe abit warmer but you get the idea). Look after yourselves – praying for your safe return.
