Mt Kilimanjaro – to Umbwe caves

Finally on their way to the start of the climb

Sean left O R Tambo yesterday with a group of 9 climbers. After a nightmare of a mission dealing with Kenya Airways and partner Precision Airways the group arrived in Kilimanjaro last night but without their gear bags. So everyone spent the night at the hotel without their kit thanks to Kenya Airways and Precision Airways, not knowing if their bags would be found before the climb. 2 other climbers were supposed to meet them in Kili flying from Dar es Salaam but Precision Airways had at the last minute cancelled the flight because apparently there were not enough passengers. Not surprising!

After much delay and running around this morning, the full group of eleven are on their way and the bags have been found.

The trail today starts through the primary rain forest to Umbwe caves campsite (approx 5 to 6 hrs). Dinner and overnight at Umbwe caves (3000m).
