Mt Elbrus – countdown to departure

Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe. It is situated in Russia and it lies within the Caucasus mountain range on the border of Georgia. Getting there is like taking a journey into the early 70’s. Russia is a non-stop ‘retro’ experience. Little has changed since the ‘Iron Curtain’ era. In fact the rugged cars, trams, planes, monuments and buildings (even the people) all seem to be made of solid iron. And if you know of or meet a Russian mountaineer, it’s quite likely they would say ‘there is no such thing like bad weather…only bad attitude!’
The expedition to Mt Elbrus begins next Monday 12th August. Watch this space.
