This morning the climbers woke to tea and a bowl of hot water delivered to their tents. After breakfast of oats, pancakes or French toast, they began the climb up a short, steep section of the trail before coming to the dividing line between forest and heather. The trail continued along the narrow ridge and as the heather thinned, they would have seen impressive views of the Tanzanian plains below and Mount Meru in the distance. The terrain now becomes rockier and after approx 3 – 4 hours of climbing they arrived at Barranco Camp (3895m).
