Aconcagua 2018 – Camp Nido (5500m)
Yesterday was awesome. It didn’t start so well. Kenny woke me up early and was battling. He’d had no sleep, was anxious and wanted to leave immediately to go home. What a state of mind to be in when you are so remote and feel so helpless. I’ve experienced many moments on big hills when I have felt the same way – what has pulled me through is keeping track of time. In just six day, I told Kenny, we could be off this mountain with a successful summit. He responded to this, then proceeded to have one of the toughest days of his life – climbing up to 5500m (camp Nido) and returning to base camp. Our acclimatisation to that height now in the bag.
Alessio is a natural climber and had a fantastic day. For me, I’m very happy the weather is improving and that there is a chance of a summit window in a few days time.
We move up to camp Nido tomorrow…
You are out of connection but Thinking of you all and wishing you a really happy summit. From all of us in SA and Dubai
