From Sean ‘ All good. We’re heading up to Baranco Camp (3950m). There’s lots of rain and a huge crust of snow on top’.
After a 3am start, the team will attempt a 9 hour push to the summit. The climb starts with switch backs then changes to a long traverse at 6500m. After reaching the main crater, they will then work their way to the summit. Holding thumbs for good weather and no wind.
As the team struggles with altitude in a harsh environment, they’ve also had to combat heavy winds and unseasonal snow – at times waist deep.
They made it to 5800m today. There is a weather window in two to three days time for their summit attempt.
The team called it a day. They tried to push up to Colera but the snow was too deep. The weather window closed with heavy winds forecast so heading home but we’ll be back next year!
