The team have arrived at Colera where they will spend the night.  They depart for the summit bid at approx 4am tomorrow.

Hear from Sean last night to say that the weather has been good so far.  Looking on the forecast it looks like the wind picks up quite a bit today so holding thumbs…

The team will depart Base Camp today and will climb to Nido where they will overnight.  Tomorrow the plan is to climb to Camp Colera (5900m), overnight and then if the weather is good attempt to summit early Saturday morning.

Sean called to say they climbed to Camp Nido yesterday and are now recovering at Base Camp for the day.  The wind is blowing hard he said…

Today was a rest day at Plaze de Mulas.  Sean called earlier to say they’re all on track and will depart for Camp Nido (5500m) tomorrow.  After reaching Nido they’ll head back down to Base Camp.

Sean just called on the satellite phone to say that everyone is well. They had a hard 10.5 hr round trip to Plaza Francia yesterday and that everyone passed their medical tests with flying colours. The team will be trekking to Plaza de Mulas (Base Camp 4200m) today. It’s about an 8 hr trek which follows the banks of the river. The walk into BC is long but the terrain is mostly flat until the last hour.

After leaving the Penitentes hostel yesterday, the group took a short drive to the Aconcagua Park entrance. Here the permits were checked by the park rangers and then the trek began. The group left the lovely city of Mendoza yesterday and after a 4 hr bus journey reached Penitentes (2700 m) where they spent last night. The trek starts today to Confluencia (3368m).
