Received from Sean yesterday ‘Team Tibet in Kathmandu…got the permit and visas today which is a massive relief. Flying into Lhasa tomorrow (Saturday). Too much excitement. Will introduce the team once we get there…’

They reached the summit at 7.15 this morning (6.15am SA time).  It was a long night and the team is exhausted but exhilarated.  A big congrats to the Viljoen family.

They have all reached Barafu camp (4600m). This afternoon the group will rest and try to sleep as much as possible before being woken for dinner at 10pm. They depart at about midnight for the summit.  Holding thumbs for good weather.

Today the group of 16 started their climb through the rain forest to the Umbwe caves campsite (3000m).

Message from Sean tonight ‘We are all in at Umbwe caves.  Fantastic day.  The two kids are doing brilliantly’.

After flying through the night from Joburg, the group of 12 climbers (including a 10 year old girl) would have landed at Kilimanajro airport this morning and will now all be resting at the Protea Aishi hotel in Moshi.  3 more climbers will join the group today at the hotel.  No news yet but hopefully all has gone well with […]

The group is safely back in Mendoza. With absolutely no chance of a weather window within the next week or so there’s no reason to stay on at Base Camp.  The plan is to tour the area,  enjoy the local food and wine and relax until they depart for SA on Thursday…

Sean’s just called to say they are going down.  They have spent 4 days at Nido and the weather hasn’t improved.  There is a giant lenticular cloud above them (created by strong winds) and he said it’s not safe to continue ascending.  So they are now all descending back down to Base Camp and will be […]
