I received this pic at 5pm today which means the team were near or at the crater rim of the volcano.  Tonight will be spent in the summit shelters overlooking the bubbling caldera below.

We reached the summit at 7.45 – Uhuru Peak (5895m).  Great weather. Great Tanzanian crew and fantastic team.

Today the climbers started the ascent to Baranco camp. The walk becomes steeper but very scenic, along narrow valley ridges and over rocky sections towards the Moorland zone. Dinner and overnight at Baranco camp (3950m).

The group caught the red eye on Friday night from Joburg to Nairobi and landed at Kili airport at 9am on Saturday. Yesterday was spent relaxing at the hotel pool and taking in the sights of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.

Ole ole ole ole…..the Aconcagua amigos tagged the summit yesterday. 14 hours round trip. Not bad for a bunch of ballies!

Yesterday the team pushed up to Camp Nido (5500m) and are now back in Base Camp.  Sean phoned this evening to say everyone is well and strong. They had a rest day in preparation for the push up again tomorrow.

Heard from Sean this afternoon.  The comms have been bad because Sean’s satellite phone was stolen out of his bag on the flight from JHB to Mendoza.  Everyone is well and in good spirits.
